Everyday Retreat

Do you ever get a bit overwhelmed with all there is to do in a day? At times, do you feel like you just don’t want to do something, important as it may be to you or those around you? Or like you simply can’t stay focused?

Our modern world offers so much to do, so many choices, and so much information at our fingertips, that there is little “white space” in our calendars. We all, as human beings, need  unstructured down time to process, or just be and relax on a regular basis.

Ayurvedic wisdom uses daily routine (dinacharya) to anchor your biorhythms and your other activities by doing the basics at around the same times each day. Allowing plenty of time for these activities to be pleasant and unrushed inherently gives you peace and grounding to support the rest of your day. Here are some easy ways to create more space and peace in your daily life:

Regular exercise that you enjoy and that is suited to your constitution will keep the mind calm and the body strong and balanced.

Do work that you enjoy, or find ways to enjoy the work you have.

Prioritize, and do one thing at a time. We are not wired for multitasking, and it dulls the mind and senses.

Don’t beat yourself up mentally if you don’t get everything accomplished. It’s ok to have a running “to do” list.

Take time seasonally to pull back:

Go to bed early, by around 10 PM, and before sleep, mentally review your day, and then forget it. This will set you up for a rejuvenating sleep and begin the cycle for a peaceful tomorrow!

Sweet dreams,
Laurene
